Over a dozen years of teaching second grade in Chicago Public Schools and twenty-seven years of parenting have taught me a thing or two. My kids also helped me cope with grief after the death of my wonderful husband. The humor and poignancy here reflects these experiences. It's dedicated to my students, my family, my community--those who love me and saved me.

A Farewell to Murphy
You've made a profound impact on the lives of so many children (and teachers). We can't wait to see what this new adventure brings, so keep us updated! Hats off to you Ms. Meredith!
Ah, the symbolism of this picture. This is the Temple of Artemis in Ephesus, Turkey which once was one of the seven wonders of the world. It was built by the Amazons. The tall pillar in the back now is topped by a large stork nest. (These are the pagan storks, Christian storks live in the old city and Muslim storks live in the new city.) Most of the original pillars are now in the Hagia Sophia in Istanbul. Pillaged. Ephesus is way cool. Maybe next time I go there it will be in the winter so it will be even cooler.
